Sarah Bond – Digital Product Designer Q&A
We sat down with Sarah to ask a few questions!
Written by: Pete Heslop
Sarah joined the Steadfast Collective team eariler this year. If you’ve been working with us, it’s likely Sarah’s had an impact on your project. We sat with with Sarah to ask a few questions around why she became a digita designer.
1) So, Sarah, tell us a little bit about yourself…
I’m Sarah, a digital product designer that envisages and designs digital experiences. I love to create beautiful designs and easy-to-use online products and websites. I am also an aspiring photographer, cat lover, car enthusiast and gamer.
2) How did you get started in design?
My Dad suggested looking into design while I was at school, starting to think about a future career. While I was in school and college, I did all of the arty subjects, but it wasn’t until my gap year between college and university that I decided to pursue design.
I landed my first design job while I was still studying at University, which really helped me step into the world of design.
Since then, I have strived to know everything I can about design. You can often find me looking at design profiles on Instagram and Dribbble.
3) What keeps you in the industry?
The fast pace of design; seeing the yearly trends, the typeface of the month etc. It is exciting how design is constantly changing and growing. My love of digital design includes: experimenting with different layouts, exploring and embracing challenging UX design, working closely with developers so we can bounce ideas off each other.
These elements keep the job so exciting and are what I get out of bed for in the morning.
4) What would be a dream project?
Working on design elements for the gaming or car industries. In my spare time, I created concept work for a mockup Lamborghini website just because I’ve grown up loving cars ever since learning to drive and taking a spin around the race track.
I would love to push everything I’ve learnt so far into a complex website like that.
5) Outside the studio, what do you enjoy doing?
I love gaming. My Playstation 4 is my world outside of work. It is nice to drop everything from the day and get lost in a fantasy world.
My other love is photography. Over the last year, I have been learning to take more professional photos (mostly of my cats) to really know my way around a DSLR camera. It is something I am starting to take really seriously and hope to take further as I progress – at the expense of my wallet!
6) How have your last few months at Steadfast Collective been?
Really great! It has been nice to be around a full team of devs, working together as a team. I am always busy and kept on my toes; it is a great challenge.
