Fusion Online

In 2021, Fusion Conferences, a leader in organising scientific meetings and conferences, approached us to develop a bespoke online platform tailored to the scientific community. With a strong focus on physical, medical, and life sciences, they wanted to create a space where researchers could connect, collaborate, and advance their fields—no matter where they were in the world.

Fusion Conferences needed a solution that went beyond typical video conferencing. They envisioned a platform that facilitated live presentations and encouraged meaningful interactions and engagement among participants. Our challenge was to build an intuitive and flexible platform that could handle the unique requirements of scientific conferences while creating an environment that felt as interactive as an in-person event.

We partnered closely with the Fusion Conferences team to develop Fusion Online using Laravel and Vue.js, with Statamic as the CMS. The platform includes various interactive features: participants can virtually ‘raise their hand’, join live Q&A sessions, network in dedicated rooms, and interact via live chat. We also incorporated a central forum for discussion threads, job postings, and collaboration opportunities.

To handle global payments, we integrated Stripe for a seamless checkout experience with auto-calculating VAT. The platform’s infrastructure, powered by Laravel Vapor and supported by AWS, Redis, and RDS, ensures a smooth and reliable experience. We used Pusher for real-time notifications and live chat, while APIs supported high-quality video streaming and screen sharing.

Since its launch, Fusion Online has been praised for enabling scientists worldwide to participate in interactive, high-quality conferences. It has allowed Fusion Conferences to expand their reach and connect researchers globally, transforming how scientific communities collaborate and share knowledge.
