Summer Sharing: Suffolk Libraries; Reading Challenge

As you might have seen, Steadfast Collective loves to champion communities online. Throughout August, we wanted to provide space through our social media and blog content to focus on the valuable work our clients are doing day-in-day-out for their communities.

The first client we’re shining the spotlight on is Suffolk Libraries. Suffolk Libraries is the independent charity that runs Suffolk’s library service. They nurture children’s literacy, support vulnerable people and promote wellbeing across Suffolk. This summer, the libraries are currently running a summer reading challenge for children.

As a team, we recognise the importance of a good story and know how foundational a love of books and reading can be in a child’s development.

So, we asked the team to think back and share their favourite stories from childhood and why…

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt – Michael Rosen

Josh “I liked the pictures and loved reading it with anyone that I could find who would read it with me!”

The Jolly Postman – Janet & Allan Ahlberg

Rachel “It was super fun to pull out all of the different letters and inserts and featured much-loved fairytale characters such as the Three Bears and Red Riding Hood. I also loved Each Peach Pear Plum, one of their rhyming books, which I now read to our daughter who loves it.”

Slinky Malinki – Lynley Dodd

Dan “Slinky Malinki was my absolute favourite! It’s part of the Hairy Maclary series. I remember how funny I used to find it as Slinky steals and hoards more and more from the neighbours and ends up in a massive mess. Also, the rhyming aspect of the story was super fun.”

The Famous Five – Enid Blyton

Andre “I enjoyed books from The Famous Five series by Enid Blyton. I haven’t read them all, but I Ioved reading about the adventures of this little group.”

The Lord of The Rings – J.R.R Tolkien

Steve “Mine was Lord of the Rings. I was probably too young for it but it was a treat as my dad read it to me while I was in bed, over the course of a few months. It was a really special family time.”
